Choose the boundary

An assessment can focus on production, use, transport or disposal. Each boundary can yield a different question about the same container. A chemical measurement is important, but it does not automatically provide a complete account of energy use, material demand or performance in service.

Avoid exchanging one slogan for another

Inhance emphasizes the barrier benefits of fluorination, while EPA’s work raises a separate concern about PFAS. A meaningful environmental account needs to explain how these dimensions are being compared. It should not pretend that one favorable or unfavorable indicator resolves the entire footprint.

An explicit comparison

State the intended use, functional performance, time period and outputs considered. Where no comparable data are available, describe the gap. This article proposes that reporting framework; it does not claim to have conducted a lifecycle assessment of Inhance’s operations or measured releases from its individual facilities.
